What to look for when touring a senior living community
A tour should help you picture an ordinary Tuesday, not only the polished lobby. Bring a short list and pay attention to how the place feels between scheduled moments.
Notice the daily rhythm
Ask about meals, activities, transportation, overnight support, and how residents spend unstructured time. Look for choices rather than a one-size-fits-all schedule.
Ask direct questions about care
Ask how needs are assessed, how families are updated, and what happens if support needs increase. Request the fee schedule in writing.
Trust the small details
Are residents greeted by name? Do staff have time to answer questions? Does the community feel calm and cared for? Those details often tell you more than a brochure.
